Submission Guidelines

We welcome three types of submissions: essays, philosophical short stories, and book or article reviews, all of which should reflect original, thoughtful engagement with contemporary philosophical topics, questions, or texts. As a new addition to the journal, we are especially excited to begin accepting philosophical short fiction and to explore the role narrative can play in philosophical inquiry.

Essays should be between 5 and 60 pages, 1.5 spacing, and formatted in Georgia, size 11. Each essay must begin with a bolded title and use Chicago style citations with footnotes, not endnotes. Submissions must be sent as PDF files titled in the following format:
FirstName-LastName-Essay-Title.pdf
(e.g., Alice-Smith-Essay-AgainstThompsonOnAgency.pdf).

If your essay is a reply to or critique of another article, please include the title of the original essay in your own title. Examples include:
Against Thompson’s Account of Moral Agency,
Revisiting Jones on Personal Identity: A Compatibilist Twist,
Moral Intuitionism Reconsidered: A Response to Davis.

Philosophical short stories should be between 3 and 20 pages, 1.5 spacing, and formatted in Georgia, size 11. Stories should explore philosophical themes, dilemmas, or ideas through narrative form. While scholarly citations are not required, authors may include Chicago style footnotes where appropriate. Each submission should begin with a bolded title and be submitted as a PDF file using the naming format:
FirstName-LastName-Story-Title.pdf

Book or article reviews should be between 1 and 10 pages, single-spaced, and formatted in Times New Roman, size 12. The title of the review should simply be the bibliographic information of the work reviewed, for example:
Peter Singer. Animal Liberation Now. Harper, 2023. 336 pages.
Chicago citation style should be used throughout. Reviews should also be submitted as PDF files using the naming format:
FirstName-LastName-Review-Title.pdf

We aim to respond to all submissions within one week. There are three possible outcomes:

Approved – the submission is accepted with no changes needed.

Resubmit – revisions are required before the piece can be accepted.

Denied – the submission is not accepted for publication.

We look forward to reading your work and supporting your contributions to contemporary philosophical dialogue.
